About this spelling practice
Each round reads a word aloud, then uses it in a short sentence, then says the word once more — the same format used in real spelling tests, since hearing a word in context helps tell apart words that sound alike but are spelled differently. Type what you hear and check your answer; the Repeat button plays the whole sequence again if you need another listen.
Three difficulty levels use different word lists: Easy covers short, simple words, Medium moves into common longer words, and Hard covers trickier spelling patterns that trip up even confident spellers.
This uses your browser's own built-in voice to read words aloud — nothing is recorded or uploaded, and no account or download is needed.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say the word in a sentence too?
Some words sound identical to others (like "their" and "there") — hearing it in a sentence gives the context needed to know which one is meant, matching how real spelling tests are usually given.
What if I don't hear the word clearly?
Use the Repeat button to hear the full word-sentence-word sequence again as many times as you need.
Does capitalization or extra spacing matter?
No — answers are checked without worrying about capital letters or extra spaces, so only the actual spelling matters.
What if my browser or device doesn't support reading text aloud?
A small number of older browsers don't support this — if that happens, a message will let you know rather than the page failing silently.
